2025 herd samples

This year, I began doing something slightly different with my program. I sent all three of my animals' fiber off to testing at Alpaca Fiber Testing USA (age range from 5 months to 32 months). Two for just a normal sample and one for a grid sample (3 samples across the body) - so, five samples in total. Two of these samples were also sent to SGS for the EPD program via AOA. I love the idea of having all kinds of data possible!

Of these five samples, they averaged the following: AFD 16.2, SD 3.2, CV 19.9%, %30 0.5, MC 59.9, SF 15.6 with an SD long of 0.78. Low of 14.38 microns and high of 21.29 microns. Pretty darn impressive!!

While all three animals came back with impressive results, I am still impressed with Ironhide Vapors - check out his reports. Overall, he averaged: AFD 14.6, SD 2.7, CV 18.7, %30 0.0, MC 63.7, and staple length of about 3.8 inches at 24 months of age. He has some fibers as fine as 13.8 microns. I feel blessed to co-own him with Aspen Alpaca Company, Mary & Stan Miller. He will continue to show until next Spring, when he will then head to Idaho.

Limited intro breedings are available, and you’d be sorry to miss out!

We couldn’t be more pleased to announce the results of our program from the 2025 AOA National Fleece Show! We entered two fleeces in the Innovative Fleece Assessment show and received great results.

Reserve Color Champion Combined Grade 0 - Ironhide Vapor
Most Uniform Grade 0 - Ironhide Vapor
First Place Grade 0 2 Year Old Dark - Ironhide Vapor
Third Place Grade 2 Light - FDA Inspired Aspen Imagination

Ironhide Vapor (co owned with Aspen Alpaca Company) received excellent scores with 15/15 points for uniformity with just a variation of 0.3 microns from across his blanket - incredible!!! He also received high remarks for his handle and style to fleece. This boy is something special!!

FDA Inspired Aspen Imagination received a third place in Grade 2 Light out of 8 animals. The two ahead of her came from the juvenile age division!

Thank you to the AOA staff and volunteers who helped make the show such a huge success!
